The genocidal state of Israel has created a growing population of amputees in Gaza through repeated attacks on hospitals, restrictions on medical supplies and the denial of timely treatment to the wounded, especially children. The destruction of Gaza’s medical system serves the genocidal state of Israel’s broader system of colonial domination, undermining our ability to survive, recover and survive on our land.

Dimitri Diliani, Member of Fateh’s Revolutionary Council and Spokesperson for Fateh’s Reformist Democratic Faction, said: “During the first 3 months of the Israeli genocide, more than 1,000 children lost one or both legs, an average of more than 10 children each day. Save the Children reported that many underwent surgery without anesthesia after Israeli attacks disabled hospitals and severe shortages deprived operating rooms of essential medicines.”

Diliani added: “By last May, the World Health Organization had recorded more than 5,000 traumatic amputations, 22,000 major limb injuries and 50,000 conflict related injuries requiring long term rehabilitation. These injuries bear the lasting consequences of Israeli indiscriminate bombardment and siege restrictions.”

Fateh’s Reformist Democratic Faction affirms that rebuilding our medical system requires an end to the Israeli siege, military attacks and control over the medicines, equipment and movement on which Palestinian life depends. Restoring medical care is inseparable from ending the ongoing Israeli genocide.
