Fateh’s Reformist Democratic Faction welcomed the October 30 international dockworkers’ mobilization as organized pressure on governments authorizing military exports to the genocidal state of Israel and companies transporting them. The Faction called for binding restrictions on the supply chains enabling the state of Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing against our people.
Dimitri Diliani, spokesperson for Fateh’s Reformist Democratic Faction, cited USB, Italy’s Unione Sindacale di Base trade union confederation, which reports backing from over 25 unions representing 113 ports across 22 countries and regions.
He indicated that supporting organizations include CGT Ports et Docks, France’s port and dockworkers’ union federation; ver.di, Germany’s service workers’ union; SIPTU, Ireland’s Services, Industrial, Professional and Technical Union; and 3F, the United Federation of Danish Workers.
“Workers refusing military cargo put pressure on the companies supplying the genocidal state of Israel,” Diliani said. “Governments authorizing those exports must answer for the weapons they allow companies to deliver and the destruction the genocidal state of Israel inflicts on our people.”
Diliani estimates that the action have the potential to disrupt more than 40% of Mediterranean cargo traffic and affect freight worth over $2 billion, while noting that its actual impact remains unverified.
“Repeated refusals can delay deliveries and force carriers to reconsider transporting military supplies,” he said. “Palestinian unions and federations endorsing this action are helping organize pressure where our people need it: on the employers and governments facilitating the state of Israel’s destruction of our homeland.”
Diliani concluded: “Fateh’s Reformist Democratic Faction calls on governments exporting arms to impose enforceable military embargoes. Port authorities must disclose details of military shipments, and employers must protect workers refusing these shipments. Stopping these supplies must help end the genocidal state of Israel’s military occupation and secure our right to national self determination.”
